Maureen FitzSimons, better known as Maureen O'Hara in America, was a child prodigy. However, for an Irish girl surrounded with gifted parents and extended family, these characteristics were a natural. Maureen entered this loving sanctuary located in Ranelagh, Ireland on August 17th, 1920. The mother of Maureen, Marguerita Lililburn FitzSimons a talented contralto. Her father, Charles FitzSimons, managed a business in Dublin and was also the owner of the famous Irish soccer club "The Shamrock Rovers." Maureen FitzSimons is the second daughter from Charles FitzSimons. Peggy FitzSimons, Florrie Fitzsimons Charles B. Fitzsimons Margot Fitzsimons The rest of the family rounded out this wonderful family. Maureen was a fan of rough sports as young and became very good at them. This interest was combined with an unnatural talent for performing. That was apparent when she was awarded each Feis for theatre and drama that Ireland had to provide. As she reached the age of 14 the Abbey Theater accepted her and let her live her dream in classical theater as well as singing opera.
